The Visual Arts
The arts are celebrated at West Hills Covenant Church as a means to
deepen our understanding and appreciation of the Lord and to serve as a
vehicle to deepen our relationship with Him.
We encourage people of all ages to try their hands at creating visual
arts to respond to scripture, church teachings, and their own feelings
and life experiences. We are blessed as a congregation with a wealth
of professional teachers including many art teachers, who have led
events such as summer Art Camp for kids (and adults). We have taken on
many group art projects as a congregation, and these works can be seen
around the campus. We have also hosted thematic individual projects in
order to create sacred works that enrich the worship experience. Themes
have included: the Stations of the Cross, The angel of the Lord – from
Genesis to the Revelation, and Barrenness Redeemed.
The West Hills Sanctuary was designed to include spaces for the display
of artworks done by church members and interested artists from the
community. The artwork is there to uplift those who use these areas for
prayer and meditation.
The Magnificat
During the four Sundays of Advent 2008, West Hills artists responded
to the theme of the Magnificat - LIVE and in the sanctuary during the
morning worship service.
The link below shows some of the artists at work. "Stay tuned" for photos of the finished work.
