Set Free in Christ to Live and Serve
Sharing the abundant grace of Christ through words and deeds
Making Jesus real at people's point of need is a calling of every member. This calling, born from His compassion expressed in Luke 4:18, involves both preaching the gospel as well as meeting physical and social needs. In being sent, it is important to have a strong spiritual home keeping one grounded in the scriptures as well as providing healing and fellowship. People from West Hills have gone throughout the world as well as the Portland area with the church supporting them in prayer, fellowship, letters, gifts, and money.
We have sent a number of people to various countries for short term missions:
Guatemala: We've been involved in sending medical teams down for short term missions for 6 years.
In Portland we have been involved in: Young Life, White Shield home for unwed mothers, Good Neighbor Center providing homeless retraining, Christmas gifts to families of prisoners, Markham elementary teacher support in tutoring / monitoring and campus clean - up, Portland State Intervarsity, SW Hope - Feeding the Hungry campaign, and the Neighborhood House.
We are currently supporting 14 full - time missionaries. They are located in areas as diverse as Australia, Thailand to Mexico, Chile and the Middle East.
Sometimes you can only be set free when you're confident of the bond that ties you to home. People from West Hills have gone throughout the world, and right across the street, to reach out with the gospel, counting on our promise that their church is here, supporting them with prayers, with letters and gifts, and with money.
We don't just send people; we go.
