Giving Tree & adorn the Manger:
Giving tree
As we enter the season of Advent and reflect on the story of Christ's birth in a lowly manger, we are reminded that having a warm bed is not something everyone has access to.
The refugee families who arrive in Portland and come to stay in the cottage come with very little. One way our community can welcome and support them is to provide bedding for each member as they move to their new apartment.
This Advent we are inviting you to participate by purchasing sheets, blankets, and pillows. These items will be used to make the beds in the cottage, and the families will take the bedding with them when they move out. This also helps our volunteers by eliminating the need to wash all the bedding between families. We have prepared an Amazon Wish List you can shop, or get ideas from. You are welcome to shop anywhere or to donate clean bedding that is in very good condition (no stains or wear) and labeled with the size. Donations can be dropped at the church. We need sheets, blankets (or comforters), and pillows to fit twin and queen size beds. We always need more twin sizes than queen.
adorn the manger
This year we continue the practice of Adorning the Manger on Christmas Eve by bringing diapers, wipes, and feminine hygiene products to church. These items will be donated to PDX Diaper Bank to support growing families in our area.
Your gifts will be greatly appreciated. This Advent, let's fill the manger with cozy bedding and much needed supplies for babies and mothers.
